Crypto tax help for London investors
HMRC has sharpened its focus on cryptoassets, and London traders and investors are firmly in view. Exchanges share customer data with tax authorities, nudge letters are landing on doormats, and reporting requirements are tightening year on year. If your records are patchy or you are not sure what you owe, now is the time to get organised.
Crypto Asset Consultants helps you do exactly that. We prepare your crypto records and tax position, and we work alongside accountants rather than replacing them.
Why crypto tax in London is getting harder to ignore
As a global financial centre, London has an unusually high concentration of active traders, DeFi users and early adopters. That also means an unusually high concentration of complicated tax positions. Selling crypto for pounds is a disposal for Capital Gains Tax, but so is swapping one token for another, and so is spending crypto. Staking rewards, mining and tokens received through work can be taxable as income.
Multiply that across several exchanges, a few wallets and thousands of transactions, and it is no wonder so many people put off dealing with it. Putting it off, though, is the one option that reliably makes things worse.
How we work alongside your accountant
Many excellent London accountants are candid about one thing: crypto is not their specialism. That is where we come in. We reconstruct your full transaction history from exchanges, wallets and DeFi platforms, calculate your gains and income in line with HMRC’s rules, and produce a clear, well-documented pack your accountant can file from. If you do not have an accountant, we can still prepare the figures and talk you through your options.
This local page sits alongside our national crypto tax accountant UK service, which explains our approach in more detail.
Situations we regularly help with
- A nudge letter from HMRC about cryptoasset holdings
- Several years of trading that has never been reported
- Thousands of transactions scattered across exchanges and wallets
- Missing data from a closed or collapsed exchange
- Uncertainty over how staking, lending or DeFi income should be treated
- Preparing figures and paperwork ahead of a voluntary disclosure
What to gather before we start
You do not need perfect records to get going; assembling what survives is our job. That said, the process moves faster when you can lay your hands on a few things: CSV exports from the exchanges you still have access to, public wallet addresses, bank statements showing deposits and withdrawals, and any notes you kept about large trades. Emails from exchanges that have since closed are worth digging out too, because they often contain balances and transaction confirmations we can build from.
From there we reconstruct the history, calculate your position under HMRC’s rules and produce a pack your accountant can file from. Timelines depend on volume: a few hundred transactions can often be turned around within a couple of weeks, while multi-year DeFi histories take longer. The same service is available to clients everywhere; see our UK locations page for the full coverage.

Frequently asked questions
My London accountant does not understand crypto. Can you work with them?
Yes, that is exactly how we prefer to work. We handle the crypto side, reconstructing transactions and calculating gains and income, then hand your accountant a clear pack they can file from with confidence.
Will HMRC know about my crypto?
You should assume so. Exchanges share customer data with tax authorities, HMRC has been sending nudge letters to crypto holders, and reporting requirements are tightening. Getting your position straight before HMRC asks is far better than after.
What if I have not reported past gains?
You are not alone, and there are established routes for bringing your affairs up to date. We will give you an honest assessment of your position and prepare the figures needed for a disclosure, without judgement.
Can we meet in person in London?
Most tax preparation work happens remotely by video and secure document sharing, which keeps things efficient. If a face-to-face meeting in London would help, it can be arranged.
