Crypto tax support in Manchester
Sold some crypto this year? Swapped one token for another? Earned staking rewards? Each of those can create a UK tax liability, and HMRC increasingly knows about it, because exchanges share customer data with tax authorities.
Crypto Asset Consultants helps Manchester investors and traders get their crypto tax position straight: rebuilding records, calculating gains and income, and working alongside your existing accountant where you have one.
What we prepare for you
- A reconstructed transaction history across exchanges, wallets and DeFi platforms
- Capital gains calculations following HMRC’s pooling and matching rules
- A summary of crypto income from staking, mining and similar sources
- Figures and supporting paperwork for a voluntary disclosure, if past years were missed
- A clear, documented pack for your accountant or your own Self Assessment
Our national crypto tax accountant UK page sets out the full service and our approach to HMRC’s guidance.
Alongside your accountant, not instead of them
Plenty of good accountants across Greater Manchester will tell you frankly that crypto is outside their comfort zone. We slot in beside them: we do the specialist crypto work, they keep doing what they do well. If you do not have an accountant, we can still prepare everything and explain your filing options in plain English.
Tax is often only part of the picture. For strategy, security and portfolio questions, see our crypto consultant Manchester page. We offer the same tax support in the capital via our crypto tax accountant London page.
Dates and rules worth knowing
Two dates catch crypto holders out year after year. If you have never filed a Self Assessment return before, you must register with HMRC by 5 October after the end of the tax year in which you made gains. The online return itself is due by 31 January, along with any tax owed. Leaving a complex crypto history until the new year is how people end up estimating figures under pressure.
The reporting landscape is tightening as well. Under the international Cryptoasset Reporting Framework, platforms serving UK customers began collecting user and transaction data from January 2026, with the first reports reaching tax authorities the following year. That gives HMRC far better visibility of who holds what. The sensible response is not alarm; it is getting your records straight before the letters arrive. That applies across the country, as our UK locations page sets out, and it applies double in a trading city like Manchester.

Frequently asked questions
I have received a letter from HMRC about crypto. What should I do?
Do not ignore it, and do not panic. These letters usually mean HMRC has data suggesting you hold or have sold crypto. Get your transaction history together and take advice on your position promptly. We can help you establish the real figures and prepare a response.
Are you a firm of chartered accountants?
No, and we do not pretend to be. We are a specialist crypto consultancy. We prepare the crypto records, calculations and figures, and we work alongside your accountant, who handles the filing side, or we can support you directly if you file your own Self Assessment.
Do you work with clients outside Manchester city centre?
Yes. We support clients across Greater Manchester and the whole North West, from Salford and Stockport to Bolton and beyond, mostly by video with in-person meetings by arrangement.
How many years back do I need to sort out?
It depends on your circumstances. If past gains went unreported, earlier years may need to be included in a disclosure. We will review your history honestly and tell you what actually needs addressing rather than assuming the worst.
